"Too" (2000) review by Classic Rock
The hard rock world never really forgave Kingdom Come for their opportunistic attempt at ransacking the Led Zeppelin legacy during the late 1980s. But the group's sole remaining member, vocalist Lenny Wolf, refuses to throw in the towel and still enjoys moderate success in his native Germany.
While 1989's 'In Your Face' opus has stood the test of time astonishingly well, that album and the group's eponymous debut were the playground of guitarists Danny Stag and Rick Steier.
In 2000, Wolfs sound has progressed more than a little. For although 'Free Your Mind' continues to revel in some Page-esque guitar fills and 'You're My Secret' comes on like an outtake from the second Led Zeppelin album, 'Too' is more about sparse, thought-provoking fare like 'Waiting', 'Mighty Old Man' and 'Tease'. And it all gets so laid-back that you suddenly realise BjOrn Tiemann's keyboards have become the band's lead instrument.
But the leopard never completely changes its spots, and the appalling 'Tell Me What I've Done' sours an otherwise credible release as Wolf relates the sordid tale of an encounter with a prostitute. You foolish man.
